Fox Business, a Fox News outlet, has reported that FBI officials have concluded that “the President of the United States has been investigated for potential crimes and possibly obstruction of justice” by the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General.
The report comes after a Fox Business article earlier this month reported that President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was indicted in the probe, has told federal investigators that the President’s former attorney general, Jeff Sessions, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, had direct contact with Russian officials.
The Fox Business report noted that a spokesperson for Manafort denied the assertion.
Fox Business has also cited a “senior law enforcement official,” who told the outlet that the FBI had no evidence that Trump had colluded with Russia, though a spokesperson denied that the president had been personally under investigation.
The story noted that “a number of senior administration officials” have expressed concerns about the reporting, and the White House is reportedly “evaluating” the matter.
The article did not state whether or not Fox News had sought comment from the White White House.
Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
